Reading Roundup – Most anticipated books of 2014

There are several books I’m really excited about for 2014.  In no particular order, here are the ones I’m most excited about.

Independent Study by Joelle Charbonneau

This is the sequel to Charbonneau’s YA dystopian novel The Testing, in which protagonist Cia must survive a Hunger Games-like Testing in order to win a coveted place at her society’s university.  Charbonneau left Cia at a very interesting point and I am anxious to read how her tale continues.

Independent Study will be released on the 7th of January 2014, and I have preordered it from Amazon.  The final book in the trilogy, Graduation Day, will be released on the 3rd of June 2014 and is also available for preorder from Amazon.

Cress by Marissa Meyer

This is the third in Meyer’s set of four YA fairytale/sci-fi blend, The Lunar Chronicles.  This one is based on the tale of Rapunzel, who in Meyer’s reimagining becomes a young hacker isolated on a remote satellite.  She teams up with Cinder, Scarlet, Wolf and Thorne from the preceding novels in order to bring down Queen Levana of Luna.  I adored the first two books and look forward to the continuation.

Cress will be released on the 4th of February 2014 and I have preordered it from Amazon.

Dreams of Gods and Monsters by Laini Taylor

This is the third in the Daughter of Smoke and Bone series, which I loved.  I’ve not yet read the second, but I did enjoy the first.  I loved the characters, writing style and worldbuilding and look forward to reading more.

Dreams of Gods and Monsters will be released on the 8th of April and is available for preorder from Amazon

The One by Keira Cass

Cass’s Selection trilogy is a real guilty pleasure of mine.  The concept – the Hunger Games meets the Bachelor – sounded unappealing, the characters are annoying, the love triangle is enough to make you want to to pull your hair out, but there’s just something about this series that keeps me reading.  The One is the final book in the series and I look forward to hearing what happens next.

The One will be released on the 6th of May and is available for preorder from Amazon.

City of Heavenly Fire by Cassandra Clare

This is the final book in Clare’s Mortal Instruments series and like many fans I’m anxious to hear how the story ends.

City of Heavenly Fire will be releases on 27th of May and is available for preorder from Amazon

The Broken Eye by Brent Weeks

This is the next book in the Black Prism series.  We didn’t get a Weeks novel in 2013, so we’ve been left in suspense as to the fate of Gavin Guile and Kip since September 2011.  I love his storytelling style and his major twists and can’t wait to find out more.

The Broken Eye will be released on 26th of August 2014 and is available for preorder from Amazon.

The Blood of Olympus by Rick Riordan

The House of Hades was a case of Riordan’s getting all his pieces in place for the final assault on Gaea.  I adore Riordan’s writing style and have grown to love all his young demigod characters and I can’t wait for this sequel.

The Blood of Olympus will be released on 7th October 2014 and is available for preorder from Amazon.
